The Sidney Custom House

The first fleet of convicts arrived in Sydney in 1788. And it was here, at the site of this Custom House in 1790, that a convict named David O’Connor was hanged. T’is an awful thing to be sure. The poor guy probably impersonated an Egyptian. Yes, this was one of the things you could be transported for. And to this very day they say that his ghost haunts the custom house giving people rum. Which is why I dropped by. It was of a much higher quality than the Dingo Rum. (See below).

We holed up here to figure out how to get to Palm Beach. They have an information desk and it seems to be a library. We sat on the second floor in the Korean audiobooks and DVDs section.

Swastikas

“During World War 2 the Customs Service covered the floor.” Well, I guess so.

It is a shame that Hitler took that ancient symbol and perverted it. It’s very old. The oldest evidence of it is a 15,000 year old bird carved from a tusk covered in swastikas found in present day Ukraine. He did tilt it, however. He tilted it forward to represent “progress”. To dust off the old ideas of the past. Hitler was a progressive (and a socialist, of course.)
