Feral Felines in California
Cat Power. Power to the Cats. This is an equal-opportunity blog for cats.
In the vast sands of the beach at Port Hueneme lurk and prowl many cats who, for reasons unknown, have found themselves struggling to survive amongst the prehistoric boulders and human detritus cast onto the shore by the majestic Pacific. You can catch a fleeting glimpse of one coming in or out of a cavity in the rocks. They will not come to you. They might watch you and then pass softly from your sight.
Sometimes they watch the birds, the Channel Islands spread out on the horizon.
Sometimes they watch sunsets that look like vaults of gold in Valhalla. A lone oil rig sits in the distance.
And sometimes they watch a storm approach.
But, they always keep one cat eye peeled for the animal known as human, especially at night. Because sometimes nothing good can happen after midnight, on the beach in Socal/Nomex.
Squirrels also find shelter in these ancient granite halls.
