From Montana to Wyoming

We walked from Montana

to Wyoming.

Crazy Horse Lakota War Leader of the Oglala Sioux

Crazy Horse was born in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1841 and died September 6, 1877, at the age of 35, on a bare floor in Fort Robinson, Nebraska.

They are working on a huge sculpture of Crazy Horse’s face. It’s bigger than Mt. Rushmore. In fact, you can see it from the road and it will be the largest sculpture in the world when finished.

The thing is nobody knows what Crazy Horse looked like. He refused to have his picture taken unlike Sitting Bull, Geronimo, and The Apache Kid to name a few. The first photos of Native Americans were taken in March of 1847 by Thomas Easterly. So if you don’t know what he looked like, how can you, in good conscience, create his graven image on the side of a massive cliff? What would he think of that? An intensely private man who didn’t want his photo taken now has his likeness carved in a massive rock face.

Jewel Cave in the Black Hills of South Dakota

We went on a tour of Jewel Cave named as such because of the pretty white crystals that grow inside of it.

Jewel Cave

It is the second longest cave in the United States and the fifth longest in the world. I only have one good photo of the inside, the rest were crappy and hence unfit for your viewing pleasure. If you go down those stairs, the cave is right there. Nice picture of the sun though.
