“They carry Bubonic Plague, you know,” said Alex.

“What? What are you talking about?” I said.

“Rodents, like prairie dogs, are the primary carriers of bubonic plague, and this includes camels as well.”

“Maureen wanted to bring one home.”

Alex is a glass empty guy. He will always tell you the worst news first and then move on from there. For example, one time I told him that my vehicle was considered one of the most comfortable to sit in.

“You’re going to fall asleep then crash and burn,” he said.

Two Bison

I couldn’t believe it when I saw two bison, yes bison not buffalo according to the park ranger, calmly grazing by the side of the road. “Stop the car!” I yelled. I got out, ran across the road, clambered up the small hill and started snapping photos.

Bison Eye

One of them noticed and raised her huge head to have a look at me. But her bovine expression didn’t change and she slowly resumed grazing once more. Then the other one looked at me, thought about it, and started moving towards me.

“You know they’re fast, right? They can cover a lot of distance in the blink of an eye,” Alex said.

“So I guess I’m lucky to be alive,” I said. Alex stared as if in confirmation of my near death by bison hooves and horns.
