Deadwood, South Dakota

The creation of the town of Deadwood was the direct result of the Gold Rush in the the Black Hills. And the people who first settled there found a lot of dead wood, hence the name. It is also where gambler and gunfighter Wild Bill Hickok met his demise.

He always sat with his back against the wall, but for some unknown reason on August 2, 1876, he decided to throw caution to the wind and sit with his back to the door. Sure enough a lowlife named Jack McCall walked in and shot Bill in the head probably out of jealousy. Fortunately, he was hung for it on March 1, 1877. But life moves on, our colorful wild west days are long gone and we are now in the era of ‘The Chubby Chipmunk’. Yes, we have become Chubby Chipmunk people.
The Chubby Chipmunk

We bought 4 chocolates for $15.00 and they were delicious. Worth every penny. Make sure you bring your wallet when you go west, sage and chocolate are expensive.
Deadwood Population 1,270

It’s a picturesque town.

It looks like it hasn’t changed much since the 1880s.
