Maritime Museum in Saint Malo

There is a church that displays old seafaring items found on ships. The exhibit includes art and photographs. The sea was such a dangerous place for so long for human beings. But it was also a tremendously exciting opportunity for any enterprising person to make their mark in trade, business, or exploration.

Taboo Animals

Cats, penguins, and rabbits are 3 animals that a French sailor would never bring on board. Unfortunately, I do not read French and therefore, could not lift the picture of each animal and discover why these animals are taboo. Never mind the sheer volume of tourists coming here every year (a lot from the UK), they will not bother with an English translation. So… I tried to look it up on the net and found out that cats were actually welcomed on board because they hunt rodents which is a good thing. I don’t know. If anyone knows the answer, please write. Thank you.
