Solanas Green Park Resort

Wind in the Trees is a Mental Breeze

When the driver stopped the minibus, everybody piled out. Then he yelled at everybody to get back into the bus. So we all start getting back into the bus and he points at us, shakes his head, and says something in Spanish. Alex said, “He wants us to stay.” So we stayed.

The rest continued on to I don’t know where. I never found out where they went. Solanas was a nice resort though. White 2 or 3-story buildings are set in a serene landscape of pines, bloomless azaleas, and large ponds with little bridges. It reminded me of the grounds of a mental institution but in a good sense. I expected to see a nurse wheeling a sedated person along the paths. I felt at home here.

View from our room and the very pond where the frogs come alive at night with their full-throated serenades.

Solanas dog. A stunning beauty with the unruffled countenance of a self-assured, well-bred native of South America’s premier tourist destination. We saw her every day. She was the only dog in the resort.

Our Suite at the Resort

The condo was complete with a covered balcony, BBQ pit we never used, a full kitchen, and a bidet in one of the bathrooms. Maureen thought it was for washing feet; I found her dipping a foot in there. I told her what it was really for and she was mortified, “That’s gross, mommy!”. Now she really wanted to wash her foot. Gross or not, I told her it wouldn’t kill her to give it a try before we leave.

Solanas is Green

I wanted to take a shower, but I had to wait for the handyman to come and reprogram the washing machine so it would stop washing, rinse, and finish. It turned out we had a washer and no dryer. This resort is “green”. A dryer uses too much energy to be environmentally correct. I had to hang everything up around the apartment and on the balcony. We also had a phone that did not work. The phone man came, examined the phone, and said, “The phone is not working.” Amazing. “Can you fix it?” I asked. “No. You need a new phone.” We never got a new phone.
