Literally on top of Old Smoky

While, or whilst, I surveyed the literal top of Ole Smoky from Clingman’s Dome, I worried about freezing. It was so cold, that we could only stay there for a brief interlude. According to the song, it is covered with snow. It IS covered with snow. And you know what else is true?

A false-hearted lover is worse than a thief. For a thief, he will rob you and take what you have; a false-hearted lover will send you to your grave.

On Top of Old Smokey

And this is true, too:

Not one girl in a hundred a poor boy can trust.
They’ll hug you and kiss you, and tell you more lies
Than cross lines on a railroad or stars in the skies
So come all you maidens and listen to me
Never place your affections on a green willow tree.
For the leaves they will wither and the roots they will die.
You’ll all be forsaken and never know why.
