You Pig!

Be forewarned, there are Border Swine on the Cali-Ore border. These big, fat pigs ensure that no unlawful animals are transported across State line. If this does happen, they are trained to squeal on their fellow animals, and authorities are immediately alerted. Pigs are natural squealers, and that’s why they were hired.

My brother thought this was a bear. I said, “Are you nuts?”

There is also a border inspection when entering California. The nice man asked me if we had any produce. I didn’t know what he meant exactly so I said, “Just Black Butte,” which didn’t sound right. He gave us a super friendly smile and wished us a good day.

Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge

You don’t see any wildlife there, do you? No, neither did I. I always stop, though, when I see a wildlife sanctuary sign. Apparently, this vast meadow is packed full of Aleutian geese from January to mid-April when they make their way back up to Alaska. These geese look like Canadian geese but are much smaller and have a white ring around their neck. So where are they? It’s March.

The ride back down to San Fran was uneventful and gorgeous. There aren’t too many people in this neck of the woods.
