Our Hotel Room at the Mother Chicken (Mère Poulard) on Mont Saint Michel

Maureen says I’m abrasive. When you check into a hotel and you think you’ve paid for two beds and they give you one bed and you question that, well if that’s abrasive, I don’t know. And they tell you they “have a group”. And you tell them you booked the room 3 months ago. So they give you a room facing the bay instead of the garden as you requested.

Only it turns out that the bay view is a lot nicer than the garden. In fact, if you include the windows in the bathroom, you also have a view of the cliff with seagulls resting only feet away. In double fact, you have a front-row seat to all the comings and goings on this rock.

Every night was full of wind. I could hear the gales keening through the crevices of the ancient edifice and I loved it. We kept the window open and were freezing in the morning but it was worth it. I hoped the gulls were all right out there.
