Taekwondo Tournament in Little Rock
The World Tournament takes place in Little Rock, Arkansas every year. We have met people from all over the United States and from as far away as South Africa. On the plane, we met a beautiful 63-year-old woman who owns a Taekwondo Dojang in St. Helena, Montana. She gave Moe this advice: Always have the “Tiger Eye” when you begin to spar. I know that Moe has a tiger temperament. This was Maureen’s second time competing at World’s.
Please note: After the Covid pandemic, the World Tournament was moved to Phoenix, Arizona.
Taekwondo is a martial art that originated in South Korea. Tae means to attack with the foot. Kwon means with the fist. Do means art or way.
Just inside the gate is a lovely garden with a fountain. This is a one-ton turtle! The turtle symbolizes longevity and the eight small turtles on the mother’s back signify the strength of family and unity. When the Senior Masters speak at the beginning of tournaments they often talk of friendship and how important loyalty is. Taekwondo is not only a form of self-defense but also trains people to develop mental strength.
