Nighttime Tour of Lima

One night we had a guide pick us up at the hotel and take us to all the hot spots in the city. I mean tourist destinations. We visited ‘El Beso’ or ‘The Kiss’. It is a famous statue in Lima located in the “Park of Love.” Every year they have kissing contests there.

El Beso Lima Peru

I don’t want to appear anti-love but nothing is appealing about the hero of this piece. In fact, with the receding hairline, he looks like some old guy kissing a probably much younger woman. Although it’s hard to tell. That’s gross. And the monument itself is way too large. It’s kind of cringe-worthy to view an intimate act like this in such a public place. Am I being a prude?

Guinness World Record Holder

From there, we went to an outdoor light show. It was a combination of laser lights and fountains that depict the history of Peru. It also included UFO sightings. I mean we didn’t see actual UFOs that night. That would’ve been a hell of a show. I would love to see that. Maybe someday. No, it’s because aliens are so often seen in Peru, especially in the Chilca desert. They include depictions of them in the show. Why is Peru such a magnet for these aliens?

This is how Maureen got drenched

This show is the Magic Water Circuit because of all the fountains. In fact, there are so many fountains in this park that it actually holds the Guinness World Record for the number of fountains in a public park. There were even fountains you could run through. Maureen got her pants all wet and was freezing to death.

So we walked to a store and lo and behold there were pretty navy blue wool pants just her size! I could not believe it. It was like divine pantaloon providence or something. She put them on right there. They did not have a change room so she went to a closet in the back of the store. Our guide and driver waited for us outside.

Revenge

On the way back to the hotel our guide got onto the subject of indigenous people. He just had to mention how the (evil) white men, killed the native peoples through disease. I don’t know what got into him because I am a white person paying for this tour. He was low-key about it. I mean he said it matter of factly. So I said, “Yeah, that was rough. But, they got us back didn’t they?” He turned his head, looked at me, and asked, “How?” “Tobacco”, I said. He nodded slowly, turned back around, and didn’t say anything else till we got to the hotel.
