The Witches of Cachiche
They are good witches, these witches of Cachiche (pronounced Kacheechay). They practice herbal medicine, they even prescribe mescaline! No wonder they are popular with the people. I don’t know how many are left. But, I do know that they ended up in the village of Cachiche, Peru after fleeing the evil Inquisition. Cachiche is still considered ground zero for witchcraft in Peru.
This young lady, who is not your garden variety old hag of a witch, resides in Cachiche. She is the likeness of a real live witch who cured a powerful man of his stammer and thus earned herself a place in the annals of witchery as a statue.
Brujas de Cachiche Restaurant in Lima
They even have a restaurant named after them. Brujas means witches. We dined there.
Let me say that I am not a Foodie. I like food, I eat food, and I need food to live, but I cannot spend my time taking pictures of it and talking or writing about it. That’s boring. I’d rather talk about something else.
This restaurant, like Astrid and Gaston, was not full when we were there. In fact, I would say it was about 25 % at capacity. I like a lively, bustling atmosphere when dining out. It’s more of a party atmosphere when there are lots of people around. It’s fun to watch people.
I cannot recommend this restaurant because it went bankrupt due to Covid approximately 8 months ago after operating for 29 years. But, the food was good!
