San Francisco Airport

International Departure Lounge, San Francisco

The international departure lounge has an outdoor area. That’s a nice surprise. Too bad I wasn’t still smoking I would’ve enjoyed it even more. The plants are colorful succulents. The “artwork” is a series of 4 sculptures of disembodied arms with a hand that is clutching something. These are hands down, the sorriest excuses for art I have seen to date. They do nothing to lift the spirits before a long flight. Come on local artists. As cultural ambassadors to the city, please make an effort to ignite my senses. Thank you.

The lighting leaves something to be desired but look at the action. These scenes stir the senses and the soul.

Art on airport wall

Fish and men are locked in a passionate fight for survival. Compare the somber, grey, disembodied arm with this animated tribute to life. Here, the artist introduces you to island culture. It’s like they have set a tantalizing morsel of south sea tradition before you and now you want to go forth to explore it. But, I’m not an art critic! This is a blog about travel to San Francisco.
