Chinatown
“Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.”
That, of course, is the unforgettable line from the movie “Chinatown”. And Jake will never forget what he saw in Chinatown, nor will his nose. Our Chinatown experience was not as bad as Jake’s. Thank God.
It’s very crowded here. I’m not used to crowds. I read that this Chinatown is the densest neighborhood west of New York City. It is also the oldest outside of Asia. There are a lot of alleys and lanes with shops and restaurants and tiny stores selling stuff with handwritten labels in Chinese. It makes you wonder. What are they selling?
A coffered ceiling from 1919. They say that coffered ceilings are making a comeback.

The Tiger Dragon
The tiger and the dragon symbolize yin and yang. The tiger stands for yin and the dragon is yang. Female traits are yin. Its qualities are passive like the tiger who waits patiently, all of her energy bound up in taut muscles ready to spring at the right moment. Male traits are yang. The dragon is full of active energy. They are evenly matched and one does not dominate the other, just as yin and yang are balanced. Everything that happens in the world is a result of yin and yang interacting.
Therefore, I don’t know what a tiger dragon animal is. Both animals in one body? What does it mean? It’s confusing.
Street Busker in San Francisco
I believe he is playing an Erhu. It is a two-stringed instrument that some say is more difficult to control than the violin.
