Mexican vs. Apache

Apache Mexican Cuisine

While walking the streets we came upon this Mexican Apache Restaurant. I was sorry it was closed because I would’ve loved to try some of that cuisine. I was particularly struck, however, by the apparent co-mingling of Apache and Mexicans because as I recall they really hated each other and would kill each other every chance they got.

Geronimo

For example, take Geronimo. (And how lucky are we to have this photo.)

He was a well-known Apache chief. His favorite pastime was raiding Mexican towns in surprise attacks and if you didn’t hide in time you were D.E.D. That’s where we get the famous, “Geronimo!!” whenever someone is about to take a giant leap off a cliff or something. It was actually the Mexicans screaming, “Geronimo!” meaning beat it, the crazy Indian is coming to kill us. So that is why it kind of surprised me to see that the two peoples have now come together over food, at least. That’s really nice.

Old Restaurant

Sketchy

While Apache/Mexican cuisine does sound romantic, something about the place is giving me second thoughts. In fact, I wonder if it is even still in business. The actual carving of the restaurant name in the building means it is old. Because we don’t do that anymore. Just think, this may be the only Apache/Mexican eatery in the whole world.
