It’s Real
I was talking to a boy in the seventh grade. We had just finished watching a movie set in the tropics. He said, “I’ve never seen water that blue or trees that green. I only see it in movies”.
He had his back to me. It seemed that he thought that such beauty in the world was not real.
“It exists,” I said. “There are places in the world that look like they are straight out of a movie, but they’re real. Maybe you’ll visit them someday.” He kept his back to me.
I had never seen water this shade of blue until I came to these islands.
I have done nothing to this photo. It looks as if someone put blue dye in the water.
When Captain Cook was here there were still fumaroles or vents on the earth’s surface, pitted throughout the islands. They were still young.
